Julie craft van de weghe, phd principal investigator

After receiving a B.S. & Ph.D. from the Dept of Cellular Biology at the University of Georgia, Dr. Van De Weghe completed her postdoctoral training with Dan Doherty, M.D./Ph.D. in the Dept of Pediatrics at the University of Washington. Dr. Van De Weghe joined the Dept of Cell Biology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 2022 where she continues to investigate cellular pathophysiology underlying ciliopathy conditions.

Justyna szymczak, ms, phd postdoctoral fellow

Justyna is a postdoctoral fellow and the lab manager. She completed her Ph.D. in the Molecular Microbiology Department at the University of Wroclaw in Poland. Her Ph.D. project was focused on ParB segregation protein interactions during segrosome assembly in Streptomyces coelicolor bacteria. In her private life, Justyna loves dogs, sports, and music.


rose johnson, ba graduate student

Rose is a doctoral candidate in the lab. In May 2022, she graduated with a BA in biology from Hendrix College. Outside of lab, Rose enjoys cats, music, and shenanigans.




felix asare, bs graduate student

Felix is a new Ph.D. student in the lab. He graduated from the University of Ghana with a BSc in Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology in 2021. Away from the lab, he enjoys books, movies, video games, and also volunteers to ignite STEM interest in young minds. Most importantly, he partakes in the unique adventures that define a grad student’s life!

zuri martinez, bs research technician

Zuri graduated from OU with a BS in biology and is a research technician in the CVDW lab. They are interested in the fields of Conservation and Restoration Ecology. In their free time, Zuri likes to make music, cook, and read!

ty fullingim summer undergrad researcher

Ty is a summer undergraduate researcher in the SURP program. He is from Moore, Oklahoma and is a biology student at the University of Oklahoma. In his free time he enjoys baking and hanging out with his dog, Jenifer.
